Role of Temperature Mapping or Monitoring Process in Warehouses

There are different kinds of warehouses available in order to store different items. Some of the common storage houses that are commonly available everywhere are for pharmaceutical, health care and food items.

However, have you ever given a thought as to how these items are maintained at a constant temperature to keep it fresh? 

This is where Temperature Mapping or Temperature Monitoring comes into the scene. The temperature mapping is a process to qualify temperatures of storage environments. It is designed especially for products that are temperature sensitive. This may include Warehouses (Controlled, uncontrolled, Dedicated or Multi Market), Cold stores/Fridges, Freezers, Containers, Vehicles, Stability Chambers, Incubators, Labs, etc. but is not limited to it.

The temperature mapping for warehouses is done keeping the following aspects in mind.

Temperature Monitoring

   Empty & with load (product) Summer & Winter External ambient temperature (outside of the facility) repeat projects every 2 to 3 years (or after any significant changes in structure or control systems).

  Date stamp of some notable events (e.g. Power failure)

  Mapped during normal operations Impact tests (e.g. HVAC, power down,         Door open tests).

  MKT (Mean Kinetic Temperature)

The Hot & Cold spots are documented using temperature mapping report, which are further brought into use whenever necessary so as to maintain continuous monitoring positions. In addition, these documents are presented as a part of study results to support the internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and overall regulatory requirements.

Overall, the Temperature Mapping or Temperature Monitoring plays a major role in fresh maintenance of all the products available in the warehouses.
